Back Exercises

Our backs and spines are a fundamental portion of our bodies. Do not get me wrong, other groups of muscles I have listed earlier are also important to work out (check out a few of them quads, hamstrings, biceps), however our backs are highest on my own personal list.

There are many more muscles that are important to exercise compared to other areas of our bodies.

Muscles of the Back

  • Erector spinae
  • Rhomboids
  • Lattisimus dorsi
  • Transversus Abdominus

These are a portion of the muscles in the back/spine area that will be focused on for this post. But if you want to learn more about all of the back muscles here is a good article.

Importance of Exercising the Back Muscles

The back and spine are there for one main purpose: to keep us in an upright position. I do not know about you, but this seems important to me.

If we are to focus time on strengthening our back muscles it can help with improving posture, reducing the risk of back injury or pain, improve our core strength, and help increase how much we can lift in the long run.

For myself, decreasing back pain is a must! With as much physical work I do with my job, it is important.

Back Exercises

Supermans

Latt pull downs

Pull backs

Bent over row

Rear fly

I will perform 3 sets of 10 of each of these exercises and progress the resistance as your strength improves.

Most of these exercises work the first 3 back muscles I have listed above. If you are interested in finding out more about the transversus abdominus specifically check out this post here.

Because our backs and spines are a fundamental portion of our bodies it is important to strengthen those muscles to reduce injuries and improve posture.
