Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo has become a staple for many of us when it comes to getting ready in the morning.

I have been using a dry shampoo several days a week now for many years. It took me 3 years and trying multiple brands to find the one that worked for me and my hair situation.

I currently wash my hair 2 days a week, usually Monday and Friday. I will use the Dry shampoo on Tuesday and Wednesday after washing and will wear my hair up in a ponytail or messy bun on Thursdays to hide any excess oil build up.

Then use the dry shampoo again on Saturday and Sunday after my Friday washing.

Most websites I have researched state that Dry shampoo should not be used more than 2 days in a row.

Weekly Routine

Most days I work out in the mornings before going to the clinic or before my kids wake up. The days I use the dry shampoo, I blow dry my hair on the cool setting to make sure the sweat is completely dry. If it is not, I noticed a larger buildup of the spray on my hair that clumps. I will then part my hair in different sections and spray along my hair line.

Now it does say on the website of the brand that I use to massage in right after spraying, BUT I will wait at least 5 minutes.

I have excessively oily skin and as a result hair, so I leave it in longer to do its magic and it works much better for me. During those 5 minutes I will do other parts of my beauty routine.

After waiting the 5 minutes, I will massage it into my hair, then using my brush make sure it is fully absorbed throughout my hair.

Other Brands I Tried

Over the years, I have tried several different brands:

The first 2 were a Tresemme brands and I do not remember which ones specifically but the first was not strong enough to absorb as much oil from my hair and the second had an interesting odor (my husband is very sensitive to odors, so that one did not last even though it worked well).

Next, I tried Dove which had a good scent and was very light, but again not enough to absorb the amount of oil I had from day to day.

The Brand I use

The one I found that works the best for me is Batiste! It works great! It absorbs all the oils and has a pleasant scent that helps keep the sweaty hair scent at bay and not offensive to my husband.

Dry Shampoo I use

Batiste also lasts all day long. So, I do not get oily towards the end of the night. It does have a little residue left over that does get on my fingers and brush when I touch or brush my hair throughout the day but that is something I can live with.

Batiste also has many different types including different scents and ones for different hair colors (a white powder on darker hair can be an issue). I use the original because again the scent issue with my husband.

And best of all it is affordable! I usually go through 1 bottle every 3-4 weeks (a little goes a long way) and it costs about $9 a bottle (less if you do in bulk on amazon).
