TRX Exercises

The TRX system is a simple piece of workout gear, although can be intimidating if you do not know how to use it.

TRX exercises can be beneficial for those who are on the go because it is portable. It is also great because it can be used for a full body workout.

Benefits of TRX

  • Build strength and cardiovascular endurance
  • Low impact (less pressure on muscles and joints)
  • Can be done quickly and anywhere
  • Its different. In this instance, I mean it is a good way to change up a routine to not get in a workout rut.

TRX has been shown to be equal to traditional resistance training for building muscle and power. Check out that research here.

It is another great way to start a workout program if you are a beginner because it is mostly body weight exercises. (Check out my other favorite body weight exercises here)

I will have patients use the TRX equipment when rehabilitating lower extremity injuries because they can use their arms to help take weight off their legs.

Admittedly, there are more upper body activities than lower. But the TRX can give a full body workout including upper and lower body, as well as core.

TRX Exercises

Chest press

Triceps extension

Rows

Squats

Planks

Bicep curls

Hamstring curls

Lunges

Pistol squat

Push ups

Knee tuck

With all of the above listed exercises, I would eventually get to a 3 sets of 10 repetitions workout. However, if you are a beginner, try doing 1 set of 10 repetitions to start and build from there.

TRX can be on the pricier side with most I have seen costing between $150-$250, but when it comes to other equipment, it is less expensive.

Even thought the TRX system is a simple piece of workout gear, it can still give a good full body workout.
