Favorite Body Weight Exercises

Body weight exercises are a great way to work out without equipment. This way a workout can be done while you are on vacation or at home if you do not have gear to use.

In my opinion, body weight exercises are also a great way to start working out. If it is something you are new to or have never done before, starting here will be perfect. 

Benefits of Bodyweight Exercises

Just because increased resistance is not utilized with exercise does not mean there are not great benefits to your body

  • Convenience
  • Cheaper
  • Great for your overall health
  • Do not have to worry about working out in front of other people
  • More functional activities (and Physical Therapy is big into improving function)

Upper Body Exercises

Burpees

Push ups 

Mountain climbers

Tricep dips

Planks

Shoulder taps

Lower Body Exercises

Air squats

Lunges

Side lunges

Straight Leg Raise

Clams

Side lying hip abduction/adduction

Abduction
Adduction

For these exercise the usual 3 sets of 10 repetitions works well. But you can also time yourself instead. Perform each exercise for 1 minute with a 30 second break in between.

All of these exercises are great way to get started and if later on down the road you want to, you can add resistance or begin at a gym.

Another Type of Workout

Something else that is also a great workout when no equipment is required: Running or walking. If you are also new to those check out my post here on how to get started with running.

Where running is hard to get started into, walking can be a good alternative. For either running or walking, another good way is to get a partner. Grab your spouse or friend to help you through it.

Since body weight exercises are a great way to work out without equipment, there is no excuse to not get started right away.
