Have you ever had difficulty finding a good snack that is satisfying and will not hurt your calorie content for the day? I do not know anyone that has not. This is regularly an issue I have, especially when working.
Well, I have created a list of snacks that I eat regularly that help satisfy my hunger and maybe even a little sweet tooth moment I may be having. Most of these snacks are also easy to make and some can even be done during a weekly food prep to save on time.
Healthy Snacks
- Carrots and peanut butter
- Celery and peanut butter
- Greek Yogurt with fruit and/or granola
- Fruit
- Apples with peanut butter (or other nut butters)
- Carrots and cucumbers with ranch (healthy ranch: blend cottage cheese with ranch mix)
- Rice cake with peanut butter and strawberries
- Protein bars or shakes (the protein bars picture below are the ones I go for!)
- Cheese and whole wheat or gluten free crackers
- Popcorn (non-buttered)
Most of these snacks will help you get fruits or veggies and protein. I personally try to stay away from too many carbohydrates or sugars during snack time. This way I will not be tired afterwards.
Healthy snacks are also a good way of maintaining a more stable metabolism. If you were to eat only three large meals a day, your metabolism will fluctuate more, and you will also eat more during those meals.
However, if you had 5-6 smaller meals throughout the day, your metabolism would stay consistent and you will not overeat at the regular mealtimes, allowing your body to lose or maintain your desired weight easier.
Like I mentioned, many of these snacks I have listed above, can also help to satisfy a sweet tooth. Like the yogurt and granola, anything with fruit, or peanut butter snacks.
Unhealthy Foods
Now the opposite side, there are also certain things that can break your calorie content throughout the day. This list mostly contains foods and/or drinks with high sugar content or do not add value to your body when consumed.
My list of things to get rid of if you want to lower your daily calorie intake or just be healthier:
- Soda
- Alcohol
- Coffee
- Juice
- Candy
- Chips
- Butter
- Starchy foods
- Cereal
There are more on this list, but these are a start.
Eating healthy does not have to be a big deal. It also should not be hard or take a long time. Most of these healthy snacks listed will take less than 5 minutes to put together. Take that time and treat yourself to a healthy snack and your body will be better for it.
